The Direct Coliform Vial (5 mL) is based on detection of carbon dioxide produced from the metabolism of the organisms. The vial consists of a detection chamber containing carbon dioxide indicators separated by a barrier layer from a chamber containing a growth medium and test sample. The Direct Coliform Vial has the ability to test for coliforms in 1 g of yogurt.
